Default Buying Guild Wars

Hi. I am thinking about buying Guild Wars. But I have a few questions before I do. I'd appreciate if someone here would answer them =)

1. If I only buy "Guild wars" without any expansions, I will only have some of the classes, and only experience a part of the game. How much would I miss out?

2. I have to buy the whole package to get everything right? Guild wars, Guild wars: Faction, Guild wars: Nightfall, Guild wars: Eye of the north, to get everything out there? Or is there any special offer to buy everything at the same time to get it cheaper or something?

3. Is it even worth only buying Guild wars? Then waiting for next month to buy a new expansion?

///Thanks in Advance, Ticklebear =)

I bought the Original GuildWars and played it for about 3 months before i bought all the games , I even stayed in Pre-searing for 2 of those months. But I would recommend buying all the games because it is such a great deal and a lot of fun...Eye of the North is buy far my favorite place to farm.

Guild Wars Prophecies (which is the original Guild Wars) is the base for all the other campaigns in terms of skills and story. If you're going to only buy one campaign then Prophecies is definetly the way to go. Concerning the additional professions in the two other campaigns (both Factions and Nightfall adds two professions), they're not really that necessary or special in terms of gaming experience. Also, Prophecies has a lot more content than the two other campaigns (longer story, more quests, wider in every aspect). Nightfall adds Hero NPCs though, which can be very useful.

To get everything (all skills/items/pets/armor/whatever) you indeed need to have all the campaigns + the Eye Of The North expansion. And yes, I think it's the smartest to buy all games in a single package, as it is a lot cheaper than buying them all separately (I personally bought all games separately for my first account = about 70-80???. For my second account I bought the Complete Collection bundle= 45???).

Guild Wars Prophecies (which I assume you mean with "Guild Wars") works great as a stand-alone game, but if you're really getting in the game, it's necessary to get the expansions.

If you need help/have questions about anything concerning the game, you should check out The Guild Wars Wiki.

If you buy only one game, you are only getting 25% of the content GW has to offer. There is alot out there with the other expansions and it adds even that much more to the game that it would be bad to miss out on.

You can actually buy a complete collection for pretty cheap these days. Most online sites have it, and I believe you can get it from the GW store as well.

Your money would be well spent if you bought them all instead of waiting a few months between getting them. GW2 is around the corner. So best to get everything GW1 has to offer before GW2 releases. As well, it is nice to have all expansions so you can start working on your Hall of Monuments for GW2 and get some pretty nifty rewards in GW2 from the work you put into GW1.

It probably is worth buying in terms of funness. But tbh Nightfall or Eye of the North will give you access to some heroes (and skills too) and will make your GW's life a lot easier for some of the less populated missions.

Ps. The expansions/campaigns don't come out every month. This isn't world of extortioncraft You have 3 main campaigns. Prophecies/Factions & Nightfall and one expansion, Eye of the North. If you have them, all updates like the War in Kryta stuff are free, you can buy some cash shop items like Shining Blade costumes if you want though. If you can get em all, hallellujah, but if not like I said earlier, it's best to have at least one that gives you access to heroes

Oh and most importantly, welcome and have fun

I bought Guild Wars Complete edition about a month ago, and I'm glad I did. I think I payed $30 bucks for it, which is all three campaigns, plus the expansion, and a couple of extra goodies to help with leveling.

Prophecies is the foundational story, so you'll want that. I'm glad I have Factions, because it turned out that Assassin is my favorite class to play so far. Nightfall gets you Heroes, and you'll find a great deal of the "meta" builds include Nightfall skills (not that it's necessary to run those builds, but it helps to actually have access to the things people recommend so you can try them out), and you need EotN for the Hall of Monuments. EotN is also great for popping into and picking up three heroes very easily once you get to Lion's Arch in Prophecies, so you can run the rest of Proph without having to rely solely on henchmen :P

So yeah, the Complete edition is cheap, and worth it.

Thanks for all the information. If theres still anyone here: I researched alil more about the game and I now know something I didn't know then. Guild wars is a singleplayer game, mostly? You only see players in the citys, and you do everything else alone. Is that true?

The cities and town are the player hubs, this is where you can see other online players. The rest of the area is instanced, so once you load into the area it will only be you and your team.

In the outposts you can meet other people and create a team together so that when you move to the instance area your entire team will be there and so you can play with other people.

It's instanced, meaning that when you leave a city/outpost and go into an area to do a quest/mission, you and your team are the only ones there (which is good and prevents stupid kids hogging bosses etc.). You have up to 12 (12 mostly for harder places like the Deep etc. though, mainstream game areas are maxed to 8) people in your team.

I'm not gonna lie, some towns/outposts will be very quiet but if you get into a decent guild that won't even be an issue. Although with GW2 on the horizon, it's been a while since I've seen a completeley personless outpost, at least at weekends

Great! sounds great! I love it =) This is what I will do: Buy the first Guild Wars, then if I like it which I think I will. I will buy everything else in a package. Even if the first guild wars is in that package. I will still earn money on it, it seems =)

You can download a 10hour/14day trial from guildwars.com instead of buying the game. This will introduce you to the beginner area of the first game and let you get a taste of it.

If you do that or purchase Prophecies and then buy the Trilogy (3 games) or Complete Collection (3 games and the expansion) you can just add it to your existing account through your log in screen and not lose your characters.

I'd get *Nightfall first if it was me, for the heroes, Prophecies is good and was the first campaign I bought (with EotN, was like a doublepack thing) but heroes allow you to customise them, you can give them weapons and choose there skillbars etc. In Prophecies you only have Henchmen.

*Or if you can get the Prophecies/EotN pack, think it's the platinum edition or something. EotN will give you heroes too
